Amber + Jordan | Indiana Wedding at Kye's

May 28 | Weddings

You may remember Amber and Jordan from their engagement session at the Falls of the Ohio State Park. It is one of my favorite sessions this year. And it was when I first realized how incredible their wedding was going to be. They are so good in front of the camera and have such a clear love for one another. On Saturday, I showed up to the Sheraton across the river and was warmly greeted by Amber and her friends and family. I was excited to hear that Amber has developed quite the fan club for the blog (Hi everybody!) and that her wedding date was decided based on my availability. A highlight of the day for me was their ceremony. The pastor (I assume) was a guy named T.C. He was so warm and kind and I could tell he knew the families very well by how they all related. He encouraged me to do whatever I had to do to capture what he knew would be a very emotional and beautiful ceremony. Seriously, that never happens. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor.

Amber is the perfect bride. She's fun, expressive and she laughs all the time. I must have a hundred shots where she's cutting up about something. Like this.

She's also quite stunning.

Despite the heat outside, one of Amber's bridesmaids, Katie, decided to hop under the covers while others got ready.

Grant + Quinn | The Birth

May 27 | Personal

These photographs are primarily for me and my wife Emily. We value remembering days like May 19, 2009. But I know there are a lot of friends and family that care about us and want to see these photos as well. So here you go. First an update. All six (wow, I have four kids...) Pellowe's are going strong a week after the birth of Grant and Quinn. Everybody's healthy except for me. I've got a sore throat that I got last night from smoking a great cigar at Grant's first man night with the guys. (So worth it!) In the slideshow, you'll see a few photos where Grant as some wires attached to him. That was just to monitor his vitals while they observed a little fluid in his lungs. Thankfully, the fluid went away very quickly. We've had tons of support and help over the past week. Mainly coming from my and Emily's parents. Emily's mom is hands down the best "take Avery and Lerran swimming, read books, make homemade bread and a roast beef dinner that will send you into shock, feed the babies and knit a few blankets while I'm at it" person I've ever met. She leaves tomorrow. (Please don't go!) My mom is coming soon to help out for a few weeks.

Trying to document the birth of my own child (or in this case, children) has proven to be one of my greatest challenges and most rewarding endeavors. I'm tempted to wish that I had someone there to document the day for us, so that I would be in more of the pictures. Someone once told me that every portrait is a self portrait. So I guess in a way, I'm in all the pictures. Here are some photographs from the day.

Right before Emily was to start pushing, I pressed my hand against her cheek. I loved how she looked at me and was able to take this photo with the camera in my other hand.

Special thanks to Dr. Clark at Women First, Louisville for delivering the twins and putting Quinn is this great light for a photo.

One of the highlights of the day was watching Avery prepare for and interact with Quinn and Grant. Such a proud big sister.

And Lerran was so gentle as instructed.

Another highlight was having Peter, Emily's father at the birth. Distance and responsibilities had kept him from seeing Avery and Lerran's births.

Emily picked up my camera and took this shot of me and Quinn. (Nice work honey!)

The first time Emily fed them both at the same time, they both managed to lose one of their socks.

Here is a slideshow from the day. You can also view it here.

Kelly + Tim | Engagement Session on Farm

May 25 | Engagements

I was excited to photograph this session for a number of reasons. First, it was the last session I had on the books before the birth of our twins. Second, they invited me to shoot at her family's farm up in Austin, Indiana. (I love different, fun, special locations). And finally, when I first met Kelly and Time, I knew right away that they knew how to WORK IT. I almost fainted when I saw this wide open field with a giant sycamore in the middle of it. Locations don't get much better than this.

I'm very much looking forward to photographing Kelly and Tim's wedding this July at the Henry Clay in Louisville, KY.

I had to throw these shots up on the blog. Kelly's grandmother had the jockey repainted every year to match the Derby winner. My grandparents had a similar statue.

This was my first time photographing a wedding at St. Brigid's Church. It's really beautiful inside.

After the ceremony, Rebecca and David tucked away in this small room for some time alone... sort of.

My favorite part of the day was roaming the streets of downtown Louisville along with their ridiculously fun (and dare I say raucous) bridal party.

Grant + Quinn | The Blog Debut

May 22 | Personal

We just got home from the hospital a few hours ago. All is well. Emily is healthy. Grant and Quinn couldn't be better. I wanted to share a photograph that jumped out at me while editing the hundreds of pictures I took over the last few days. My head is still spinning from all the activity. Did that all just happen?

Quick stats on the babies. First, our daughter, Quinn:

Full Name: Quinn Abigail Pellowe
Weight: 5 lbs 12 oz
Height: 18"

And our son (Did I just write that?), Grant:
Full Name: Grant Jameson Pellowe
Weight: 6 lbs 10 oz
Height: 18"

Quinn was born at 5:47pm on May 19, 2009. Grant followed 9 minutes later. The verdict is still out as to whether Grant was being a gentleman or if Quinn cut in line. More pictures to come next week.
